R. Eric Craig

Eric Craig is a managing shareholder with Deatrick & Spies, P.S.C. in Louisville, Ky., where he practices in the areas of creditor rights and tax law with an emphasis in real estate litigation. He has 20 years of experience representing Fortune 100 companies, as well as small and medium-size businesses and individuals. Mr. Craig previously was a partner with McDonough Craig, PLLC, a managing partner with Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA and a shareholder with Weber Rose, P.S.C. He also had his own practice for two years and is a former deputy commissioner and general counsel of the Kentucky Department of Revenue, where he oversaw its day-to-day operations and directly supervised all litigation involving the Department of Revenue. In addition, he had primary responsibility of the Division of Protest Resolution, directing protest resolution officers as they sought to resolve the Commonwealth’s tax disputes before they went to litigation. In this capacity, he had direct responsibility for settlement of disputed tax matters, holding conferences with hundreds of taxpayers over his tenure. Mr. Craig also was responsible to the governor for opinions on the interpretation of Kentucky tax law and regulations, as well as drafting and reviewing proposed regulations and statutes for the governor. Prior to practicing law, he spent two years in Germany serving in the U.S. Army as a Pershing 2 nuclear missile crewmember in the late 80s. Mr. Craig received his B.A. in history in 1998 from the University of Louisville and his J.D. in 2001 from Brigham Young University J. Ruben Clark Law School.
